Clu Clu Land (NES) Retro Review

Clu Clu Land is a 1985 NES game developed and published by Nintendo. The aim of the game is to swing around posts revealing ingots whix eventually form a shape (e.g. Mushrooms or a heart).

Getting straight into gameplay i found the controls incredibly confusing at first and it took a while to get used to them and start enjoying the game. The graphics were ok, nothing made to impress but it fit its purpose. As for music, it was quite nice despite the repetitiveness but the sound of passing through ingots was kinda annoying.

I enjoyed what i managed to play, trying to reveal a picture is challenging and fun plus using your attack to stun enemies before splatting them against a wall to kill them was satisfying. However since I’m bad under pressure i couldn’t get that far and kept losing due to running out of time. Considering the game had much more to offer in terms of difficulty (ingots that you can rebury appear much later) i felt only fan of these sorts of puzzle games can truly appreciate it.

Overall its a nice game, i wish i was better at it but i can at least say its worth a try. Since its made by Nintendo it should be on the Virtual Console.
