Action 52 is an unlicensed multicart for the NES developed and published by Active Enterprises in 1991. It has ’52’ of the worst made NES games of all time (a few of the games don’t even load). Ironically its also one of the most expensive carts too originally being marketed for $199. Note there’ll be only 1 screenshot per ‘game’ for length reasons.
Firebreather is a 2 player only game where each player plays as a dragon while trying to kill the other one. The game may seem at a passable level at first but very quickly proves how poorly made it is. Its way too easy to make the sprites glitch out especially if you fly to where the lazily done life bars are. The graphics are bad and it looks like the level design with some sort of paint tool aka its really messy. Last of all AI probably wouldn’t of been that hard in a game that simple. Overall its really bad.
First thing is the fact the game starts you right below an obstacle that requires dodging instantly aka it gives a terrible first impression. Other than that its just a completely boring vertical space shooter, there doesn’t seem to be anything notable in the gameplay, graphics or music (other than the problems). The majority of the level was entirely ignorable until you get to the levels boss. Not only is the AI just retarded and happy to crash into you the sprites glitch out a lot too. However that pales in comparison to the fact shooting fast enough glitches the game out enough that it doesn’t even spawn and you’re forced to kill yourself. This game could of been better if some actual effort was used.
Its hard to contemplate the idea behind this game. You play as a laser wielding random person in a building with 5 floors that has really shitty lighting while defeating zombies (or whatever the hell they are). You are only given a split second to see the zombies once at the beginning and then every time you kill a zombie, it quickly gets on your nerves. Since the lights turn off so fast and you can only see ladders when they’re off you are forced to wait for them to walk in front of the ladder which is both repetitive and takes forever. As you could guess I soon gave up due to boredom.
This game is a terrible side scrolling space shooter. The gameplay is far worse than the poorly done graphics. Enemies fly past you at supersonic speed and you’re expected to defend yourself with the space gun equivalent of a pea shooter. If that doesn’t sound horrible enough the sprites glitch out easily and half the screen is taken up by instant death walls. I gave up trying to get anywhere.
Ooze is a platformer where you play as balding grumpy fat guy in a green outfit stuck on a planet of slime aliens with only a tiny pink gun to defend yourself with, also its poorly made as usual with awful graphics. The game is plagued with the worst jump mechanics in the universe where you need to move AFTER you jump or you’ll jump straight up instead (will refer simply as ‘that nonsensical jump’ in other mini reviews). Essentially it defies logic where a running jump is actually a standing jump and a standing jump is needed to move left/right. I’ve done a embarrassing suicide jump because of this. Not that it matters though, everything instance kills you anyway and the game crashes as soon as you beat the 2nd level. I actually forced myself to legitly win Level 2 but I wish I didn’t.
This game is a top down shooter where you play as a knight who seemingly has the power to fire swords out of his dick (the sprites are so badly done…). All the graphics were terrible, trees looked more like huge ms paint cabbages and enemy design were just random. So was their AI as they moved around like total retards although sadly it was the only interesting thing about the game. Also I later noticed the game had both clipping problems and invisible barriers at the same time. Only a special level of crappy game dev could make that.
This game is one of the almost unplayable ones, it loads but its just so bad. Its a horizontal space shooter with a painfully bad twist. Said twist being you have to defend yourself against magical homing meteorites with only a pea shooter that can only shoot in 1 direction at a time. I barely lasted a minute before I gave up.
Jupiter scope is a vertical shooter where you have to defend the city in you stupid looking ship by shooting meteors before they land. Not only is both sound and graphics bad as expected but you don’t actually need to save the city at all, as long as you don’t get hit you could let 100’s hit the city. Also its surprisingly easy to shoot fast enough for the game to refuse to spawn any meteors at all (no guitar hero style finger frenzy or autofire needed). I’ll refer to it simply as the ‘spawn blocking glitch’. As much as I didn’t like the game I do admit to being tempted to search what the highest (emulated) score was and perhaps beat it myself.
One of the broken games that refuses to load on both legit and emulated hardware, you can only guess how bad it would of been from the stupid title.
This game is a vertical space shooter where you seem to play as a lunar vehicle or something shooting at enemies. The music and graphics are as bad as usual and it bothered me that you didn’t actually start on the moon. Gameplay wise its as bad as you’d expect, not only do you have a pea shooter again but practically everything is an insta kill obstacle. I got annoyed enough to quit vey quickly.
This game is a top down shooter where you play as a normal looking beaver with a shitty shooting power in a wrld where trees looked like ms paint scribbles fighting against his stupidly colored but much stronger and magically spawning brethren. On a seriuos note its immediately noticeable that everything is terrible and there’s an horrible example of ‘AI cheats’ as well. After all they can spawn out of thn air and shoot directly at you while you can only shoot in 1 of 4 directions. I somehow managed to beat a level before quitting due to immense boredom.
This game is a vertical space shooter (again) however unlike star evil it doesn’t have walls at the side and instead has random spawning blocks to dodge. The sound is ignorable and the graphics are so bad you’d think the devs were on drugs, especially since the enemy designs seemed incredibly random. This is another games with the spawn blocking glitch although this time firing to fast can also break the game. I gave up because of that.
This game is a platformer where you play as a busty female who defeats evil spirits my throwing tiny crosses at them. Unlike the games i had played so far it looked like at least some effort was used in the graphics although the ghosts looked really stupid. Even the jumpingn mechanics work like they should as well. The fact that everything kills you in one hit is annoying like usual though. This makes the fact the level is torturously long with no checkpoints so much worse. I personally think they would of been better if split into stages or something. By cheating i found there was a boss at the end of the level that can’t even hurt you unless you act like a retard and walk under it. Sad thing is this game could of been better but it was boring once again.
Chill Out is a platformer where you play as a blue clothed eskimo fighting against grey clothed eskimo’s in a snowball fight to the death. the graphics are terrible and the sprites are almost permenantly glitching out. Not to mention you can’t jump down without magically dying halfway (which i’ll refer to as BS fall deaths) and turn into a snowball for some reason. There was alsoo noticeable lag between only having 1 enemy and when theres 2. it wasn’t a very hard game but it was too boring to play for long.
Sharks is a game where you play as a diver in the ocean armed with endless amounts of harpoons in order to kill… sharks. Said sharks appear from each side of the screen and you must shoot them. While the sound/graphics were not terrible i felt the designs looked very stupid like it had all been done in ms paint. While movement seemed ok the attack was incredibly limited since it could only attack what was directly in front of you. This meant you had to move directly in the way of sharks in order to kill them. Although the sharks only moed in a straight line making them really easy to kill or dodge but also made the game repetitive and boring causing me to quit.
This game is a side scrolling space shooter like G Force but luckily it doesn’t have the bullshit death walls. The graphics seemed unbelievably retarded and the sound was plain ignorable. Enemies fly at you at super sonic speed and the gun you have to defend yourself with looks worse than a pea shooter (the pilot may as well of opened a window and started firing a pistol at the enemy instead). I found the boss incredibly annoying too, shooting tonnes of bullets that were not only hard to see but caused the game to lag like crazy. I gave up pretty soon because of that.
This game is a platformer where you play as a baker that is specifically french and probably on drugs because he has to defeat living donuts and other incredibly random things that somehow grew legs. The graphics are horrible and theres a bug or smething which makes the character spaz out after he throws a plate (although it helps make him look like he’s taken drugs). It also suffers from the BS fall deaths again. This game had so many similarities to Chill out that i gave up very quickly. After all this one is worse.
Atmos Quake is yet another vertically scrolling space shooter (the 3rd so far). Like all the other games the sound wasn’t good and the graphics were ugly with weird sprite designs. The annoying 1 hit death and pea shooter for a weapon was back as usual too. Unlike the other 2 thi one has horizontal walls you must move around and while its easy i still found it annoying since i didn’t have any time to shoot any enemies. There is also a lack of a boss at the end. I quit very quickly due to the feeling i had already played this.
Meong seems to be inspired by Minesweeper in the way you have to go into an area without being able to see and hope you don’t get blown up. There is so indication of what blocks are bad but by the time the game shows you it blows you up for being inactive. Everything about it was ignorably bad and i quit after a few minutes.
Space Dreams is the 4th vertical scrolling space shooter in this collection. You seem to play as a babies dummy fighting against teddy bears, paper clips and other random shit. As you could guess the sound is ignorable and the graphics are beyond terrible. Unlike the other games you don’t have a pea shooter but its so slow a legless tortoise could go faster. At first there is no obstacles, just a flood of the horrible looking enemies until later when it just random throws them n but by then i was already bored t death and quit.
Streemerz is a party themed vertical platformer (?) where you use something to slowly climb up while dodging stuff like clowns and bags of money (something tells me they shouldn’t harm you). Sound and graphics are terrible and the fact everything turns into a sad face when you crash into them just seems dumb. I was pleasantly surprised this didn’t have the BS fall deaths but its not something deserving praise, its something you’d expect. I was incredibly bored of it very quickly but i tried getting as far as possible only to find a impossible to reach platform in level 2 which made me instantly quit.
Spread Fire is another vertical facing shooter like jupiter scope except this time you’re in space fighting aliens (again). Both sound and graphics are terrible as youd expect by now especially the incredibly random sprite designs. The AI movement is also overly random again but not in a way thats chalenging at all. Only difference between levels were the amount of enemies and their speed, although you could make none appear because the spawn blocking glitch was back. I managed to get to Level 4 on my first try and couldn’t be bothered to attempt to get any further.
This game is a platformer like ooze where you play as a random blonde woman with a ponytail, and pink dress and high heels trapped on an alien planet for some reason with the the ability to shoot bubblegum projectiles to save her. It also has the nonsensical jump mechanics but it isn’t really necesarry because the jumping unkillable aliens will probably murder you anyway. The game was easily worse than Ooze causing me to quit very fast.
This game is an almost unplayable horizontally scrolling shooter. As you can guess the sound and graphics are both terrible but you’re barely given any time to see any. It combines too fast to dodge killer walls, annoying enemies and the slowest pea shooter in existence in order to give you a few seconds of gaming hell. I tried multile times just to realise its literally impossible making me quit very fast. It might as well not exist.
This is a platformer where you play as a black guy working you way to the cave exit by dodging/killing enemies. Sound is ignorable, graphics are horrible and the enemy designs dn’t make any sense. You die in a single hit again and the enemies are stupidly fast, not to mention the mushrooms murder you if you touch them too. Not that it matters because the enemies higher up stop you from being able to get to the exit and therefore made winning impossible. I quit very fast again.
This game is a horizontally scrolling shooter where you play as a random guy riding a rocket holding some rope fighting against other rocket riding weirdos and flying magic cows. As usual sound is ignorable and the graphics are both shitty and stupid. You are slow as hell and so is your pea shooter which makes the fact the rocket riding enemies basically suicide rush you so much more annoying The game is noticeably impossible and therefore i quit incredibly quickly.
The 3rd horizontal scrolling platformer, this time playing as a guy in a poorly built robot stuck somewhere weird. Its immediately notable that the music and graphics are some of the worst so far (WTF is with those faces…). Only a single enemy needs to be on screen for the sprites to glitch out too. You also have the nonsensical jump mechanics, the super slow pea shooter and BS fall deaths again. Not to mention there are annoying enemies that can’t be shot that also shoot a projectile thats very awkward it dodge. The stage felt like it was miles long but it also turned out to be the only one. I quit the second i realised this.
Cry baby is another game that makes you think “WTF Developers!”. You play as a baby in a parallel universe where chair and sofas are actualy ladders either defeating or escaping from older kids, adults and shitty diapers. As you can guess the music and graphics were just as bad as the idea behind the game. It also has the worst case of BS fall death imagineable. I didn’t play for long because it felt like a downgrade to a already bad game i already played.
Slashers is a sidescrolling beat em up where you play as a guy on the roof of the longest/thinnest building in the universe beating people up one by one (doesn’t actually involve slashing…). The music is very annoying and the graphics are poorly made, especially the attack animations. Playing the game legitly is impossible because the attack in super close range meaning you and the current enemy just exchange hits until one of you dies. However because of the way neither player or enemy can turn around i found a huge exploit/oversight. By luring them to the left side of the screen you can quickly walk around them causing them to walk off ad despawn without any fighting. This didn’t make the game any fun but i did do a no hit pacifist run of the whole game fr the lolz before i quit.
This game seems like a top down maze shooter thing. You play as an ultra tiny man in a maze trying desperately to shoot other tiny things. It was clear to see everything about the game was terrible. Only ‘good’ thing was you pea shooter wasn’t slow but enemies were still almost impossible to hit even though your bullets go through walls. Not to mention there were instant kill things you could accidentally walk into dotted around the map too. I gave up before i even got a game over.
This game is a platformer where you play as a bearded thing fighting against living hairdryers in a forest while trying t keep your hair. The sound is ignorable and the graphics are beyond terrible, especially the player sprite that has giant feet and loses hair to reveal that its far more ugly as you take damage. You get a useless spin move that doesn’t hurt enemies meaning you cant even get past the first one. I quit so fast because of it.
Shooting gallery is a vertical shooter almost the same as Spread fire other than the fact you are a guybin a shooting range. However its also worse in every way, graphics are poor and there isn’t any music. Also losing even once crashes the game. It was not worth trying again.
Lollipop is another platformer but this time you play as a random boy stuck on a planet of evil sweets with only a giant lollipop to defend yourself with. Not only is the music and graphics bad as you expect but the death animation is buggy. While you can jump higher than in other games the Nonsensical jump mechanics and BS fall deaths are here again. Something that also annoyed me was how you didn’t climb ladder but had to awkwardly jump up them instead. Only good point about the game was level 2 had a different permenantly looping micro tune but I ended up quitting before level 3 because of the huge difficulty spike.
Evil empire is a static platformed like Chill Out but with the additional crappiness of tiny characters like Crazy Shuffle. Aiming was a speck easier since you didn’t need to shoot in 4 directions but the enemies were so tiny that its still hard to get them, especially the flying ones. The Nonsensical jump mechanics made it harder and i was even sure it was worse than usual. Despite how easy the game actually was (it threw lives at you) it was still basically a downgraded version to a game I had already gotten sick of and therefore I quit.
Sombreros is a top down shooter like Silver Sword but you’re a guy in a Sombrero that walks in the middle of the road getting hit by cars collecting traffic cones and (supposed to be getting) shot at when collecting hats. The graphics are as terrible as you’d expect and the music is the same 6 seconds repeated forever. The gameplay is so bad that it makes Silver Sword look well made. AI casually walk through walls/objects like its nothing and don’t even attack you. Even if they run into you its rarely kills you because collecting the hats/cones seems to heal you. The game was so easy I won it with one hand while finishing writing the review on paper with the other.
This was yet another top down game a bit like Silver Sword but far worse as you’re stuck on one screen like Firebreather. You seemed to play as a tank fighting against pink tanks, tiny people and huge giant army people. There wasn’t any music again and the graphics were horrible although the giant army guys was more of an idiotic gameplay choice than a graphical one. Enemies spawned out of nowhere and walked straight left or right off the screen and you were stuck trying to get them with a super slow pea shooter that even the huge guys could dodge. It got boring very easily and I quit before getting a game over.
Mash Man is a platformed where you play as the brother to the thing from Fuzz Power who is on another planet for some reason with the mission to squish creature with his overly huge feet. The music is shit and the graphics are beyond bad again, not to mention the sprites were almost always being glitchy (the walking animation was just retarded). It was surprised to see a game where both jumping on enemies hurts them but you jump normally too. However the game is practically impossible because of shitty hard to dodge spikes that you can also barely see. Because of this I quit very quickly again.
They came is a top down single screen shooter where you shoot other ships and collect p icons. It looked like it might be the tiniest bit OK despite the usual bad music and graphics but it always crashes after a few seconds. It might as well not exist.
Laser League is yet another side scrolling space shooter, this time you are a guy with a propeller on his back fighting aliens. The graphics are painfully bad and there was no music either. Not to mention your gun was the slowest pea shooter ever meaning enemies crashed into you and killed you very quickly. I gave up once I realised it was impossible.
Billy Job is a platformed where you are probably an archeologist or something escaping from a ruin. The graphics seem OK but that’s the only good point, there’s no music again. While the infinite amount of falling blocks and spears were annoying Tue first screen actually made it look OK until you find out you instantly fall to your death when you enter the second room and the jump is impossible because of Nonsensical jump mechanics. It was actually sad how I was forced to give up.
a city of Room is a game where you play as a dude who climbs the tallest skyscrapers in the universe where stuff falls from above at you and there are giant wasps. It had music so bad that I’d rather it didn’t have any at all and the graphics seemed really dumb. The gameplay was incredibly annoying, instead of hitting an invisible wall around windows touching them instance kills you. Other than that the game is really easy because you can shoot both the wasps and the falling objects. This didn’t stop the game from seeming boring and repetitive though which caused me to quit very easily.
Bits and Pieces is a side scrolling game where you play as a zombie or whatever you are fighting skeletons, werewolves, green things etc by jumping on them. The graphics are slightly OK and the music wasn’t terrible this time. You don’t actually have a proper attack that bugged me alot and there was no indication when you kill something other than it just disappearing. I actually thought you had to dodge everything at first but its obviously impossible since enemies spawn endlessly from both sides of the screen. The games downfall was its repetitiveness since the second level was no different from the first so I quit not long after reaching it due to boredom.
Beeps and Blips is a single screen space shooter similar to They Came except it actually works. The sound/graphics weren’t that good although the fact the ship changed slightly to show your health was special compared to the other games. Other than that its still a bad game, shooting is the same as Critical Bypass only being able to shoot in one of 4 directions. On top of that the levels are repetitive and the 3rd level introduced super fast homing things that were too hard to kill. I ended up giving up because of it.
Manchester is a game where a guy ho may or may not be from manchester is in a weird dimension for some reason. The graphics and sounds are bad as expected and they somehow used the pause sound for the jump making it very annoying. On top of that the Nonsensical jump mechanics are here and then projectiles that come out of nowhere are annoying. You can actually kill everything by punching them (something I think might be a sad attempt to make them seem cool). It all doesn’t really matter though because it puts a trap on a platform you need to get to that is impossible to get past so I quit.
Boss is a side scrolling shooter where you play as a lizard man or something in a city fighting green things. The graphics are shitty and there’s no music but that doesn’t matter since there’s an impossible to kill enemy a mere few seconds after starting. Didn’t even get to notice the Nonsensical jump mechanics or the pea shooter until the second time I played it. Its another game that might as well not exist.
Dedant is a vertical shooter where you play as a bug thing trying to shoot the other bug things. However not only are the graphics and music terrible but there’s so many other problems too. You’re forced to fight the enemy with a pea shooter as usual while the enemy is far stronger and totally willing to crash into you like a bastard. I found it unplayably annoying.
Hambo’s Adventure is a platformer where a pig-human has to climb ladders and dodge obstacles to get to the exit. The graphics are shit as usual and the music is just torture. Despite how important jumping is the Nonsensical jump mechanics are back which was made more annoying since you died in one hit again. I managed to get to level 6 despite already being bored before it threw an impossible situation with the small platform with the exit being perfectly protected by a ball. I couldn’t be bothered to try again.
This is a game which most likely reflects the possibility that the games were made under the influence of drugs. The music and graphics are both horrendously stupid and make no sense at all. You can’t jump, your attack is useless and you get killed almost instantly. Yet another game that may as well not exist.
Not really sure how you could fail to make a jigsaw game but this is another that doesn’t even load…
Ninja Assault is a side scrolling beat em up like slashers except you’re a ninja and there’s more problems. The music and graphics actually seemed OK but the gameplay was shit. You only had a practically useless jump (nonsensical jump mechanics included) and a super close range attack despite the fact you blatantly hold swords. As well as the the human enemies that trade blows with you until someone dies there are also birds and dogs that basically do suicide attacks. The game was so annoying and bad that I was actually sad when I realised you and then could turn around which means the exploit I mentioned in slashers didn’t work. I quit after trying pointlessly to actually get somewhere.
Robbie and the Robots is a platformer where you play as robbie who is a boy in a cave filled with robots. The graphics are bad and the lack of musovc is made worse by terrible sound effects. Ironically the character holds one of the smallest firearms out of all the games yet you can actually shoot really fast. The Nonsensical jump mechanics are here but its not important because you don’t actually need it in the first level (you can win by just running and spamming shoot) and the 2nd level has such a huge difficulty spike that I found it impossible and quit.
Cheetahmen is a side scrolling beat em up and the main game out of all 52. It even go a incredibly dumb and pointless back story where a guy gets pulled into the TV by a robot arm before conveniently meeting the cheetahmen who promise to protect him (or something). While you can tell more effort was put into graphics and music than the other games the gameplay is terrible as usual. You have a stupidly short ranged attack like in Slashers and Ninja Assault as well as only having annoying and random flying enemies. Not to mention random holes in the floor that you can’t even touch without dying. There’s also a problem with how the level scrolls but you already hate the game before you properly notice it. I have no idea how they looked at this and decided it needed a sequel…
